Raymarine Network Optimisation on an 18-Metre Motor Yacht
We recently completed a network reconfiguration and optimisation project on an 18-metre motor yacht equipped with Raymarine technology. The vessel already had a capable electronics package, including multifunction displays, radar, cameras, and modern navigation equipment, but the original configuration was limiting how efficiently signals were distributed around the boat.
Challenges and Solutions Implemented
One of the main issues was the inconsistent video feed from the onboard cameras to all available displays. For a captain and crew, reliable camera visibility is not only a comfort feature; it also supports safer manoeuvring, monitoring, and day-to-day operation.
To resolve the problem, we carried out a detailed review of the cabling, network topology, and device configuration. We then optimised the use of switches, corrected network routing, and adjusted the configuration of the connected equipment.
Work Completed
- Optimisation of the SeaTalk and RayNet network infrastructure.
- Reconfiguration of the network switch to improve video signal distribution.
- Power supply adjustments to reduce the risk of interference and unstable operation.
- Firmware updates to ensure full compatibility between connected devices.
Results
After the optimisation, camera signal distribution improved significantly. The crew can now view camera images across the required displays without interruptions, improving both operational efficiency and onboard safety.
